WDSRA – Teen Edition

-

Ah… the pre-teen and teen years. These are the years where, according to them, it’s all about friends and fun. But we know this is when they are trying to fit in while testing boundaries and finding out what makes them unique. No doubt, it can be a tough time. For a pre-teen or teen with a disability, fitting in while finding the confidence to be themselves can be a lonely journey. But Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) can make that journey a lot less lonely.

With social and recreational programs specifically designed for ages 8 thru 16, pre-teen and teens get the chance to explore news interests or simply enjoy current interests. There are activities that can build their self-confidence and give them a greater sense of their individuality. At the same time, they are in an environment where they can learn and practice social skills. Trained staff are there to guide them in both the activities and social interactions.

Now, I don’t want to rush through summer. There is still time to enjoy all the fun and sun. But we are excited about the fall programs currently being planned here at WDSRA. And we know that busy parents are already looking for what they can plan around the school year for their pre-teen and teen. Here is a sneak peek at just a handful of programs you can find in out fall brochure being posted on/around July 20 at www.wdsra.com.

This fall pre-teens and teens can discover their unique talents with voice, guitar, piano and even ukulele lessons. They can express themselves through acting, dance or art programs. Looking to join a team? We have track & field, soccer, swimming, bocce, and bowling. Into fitness? Try Tae Kwon Do, outdoor walking, yoga, or a group fitness program. We also have programs like bingo, karaoke, sports talk, and cooking. All geared specifically for pre-teens and teens.

There are added benefits you won’t see published in our program descriptions. These include reducing stress, expelling restless energy, weight management, reduced depression, and more. All great for this age group.

So when it comes time to check those class schedules and purchase the school supplies, don’t forget to register your pre-teen or teen with WDSRA. With so many fun activities to choose from, make it the BEST. FALL. EVER!
