Loaves & Fishes Community Services is broadening food access via local delivery of groceries

-

Above / Loaves & Fishes Community Services, with administrative offices in Naperville, has partnered with DoorDash’s Project DASH to broaden food access via local delivery of groceries.

Mike Havala, President and CEO of Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes Community Services is excited to announce that it’s partnering with DoorDash’s Project DASH to provide families in need the option to have their groceries ordered from Loaves & Fishes delivered right to their homes at no cost. Due to lack of transportation or mobility challenges, many families face challenges getting the help they need.

Loaves & Fishes has seen a 60% increase in need since the beginning of 2022 and is now serving more than 5,000 people per week. The negative effects of high inflation are disproportionally felt by low-income households, which spend nearly all of their income on housing, transportation, and food.

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with DoorDash to deliver healthy groceries to families in need, especially those who have significant obstacles accessing healthy food. This program with DoorDash, coupled with our new online ordering system and new hub facility, is a game changer for many people,” stated Mike Havala, President and CEO of Loaves & Fishes. “Clients can order food on Loaves & Fishes Online Market and select the option for delivery from DoorDash.”

“We are honored to partner with Loaves & Fishes Community Services to broaden food access in Illinois,” added Brittany Graunke, Director, DoorDash Drive. “Local delivery has helped food banks and food pantries provide food and other essentials to their clients in a convenient way that emphasizes dignity. We’re excited to continue growing this work in a sustainable way for our food bank and food pantry partners across the country and continue to meet the ongoing need.”

DoorDash’s Project DASH empowers food banks, food pantries, and other social impact organizations to leverage DoorDash logistics to increase access in their communities.

Since inception, Project DASH has powered more than 2 million deliveries across the U.S. and Canada with more than an estimated 35 million meals delivered. Organizations that would like to partner with DoorDash’s Project DASH can sign up here.
