Updated Post, July 25, 2022 / In response to a PN inquiry, Crime Prevention Specialist Julie Smith at the Naperville Police Department said, “We are right at 45 neighborhoods participating in Naperville Night Out,” adding that the new community kickoff event, a Movie Night at the Fry Family YMCA on Mon., Aug 1, is shaping up to be a well-attended event with the YMCA publicizing to all the members and kids who attend camp.
“It’s great to have a centralized event for all those neighborhoods that don’t hold neighborhood events. Now we just need the weather to cooperate!” said Smith.
Original Post, June 21, 2022 / Neighborhoods throughout Naperville are invited to join communities nationwide and participate in National Night Out on Tues., Aug. 2, 2022. Online registration for Naperville events is now available at www.naperville.il.us/nno.
Commonly called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out is a nationwide event designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police /community partnerships.
Nearly 40 Naperville neighborhoods participated in 2021 by hosting block parties, potlucks, parades, ice cream socials and more.
Registration is free / Register by July 11
Neighborhoods are asked to register their local 2022 National Night Out events with the Naperville Police Department by July 11. Registration is free and will allow members of the Naperville Police, Fire, Public Works, Animal Control, Electric and Water Utility departments, and Park District Police to visit many of the registered events.
City staff will visit only registered events between 5 and 8PM. Residents are being asked to keep universal health precautions and any applicable COVID-19 restrictions or recommendations in mind as they plan and execute their neighborhood events.
Community Movie Night is August 1 at Fry Family YMCA
Understanding that not every neighborhood in Naperville hosts a National Night Out event, the City of Naperville, in partnership with the YMCA, is pleased to host a free community-wide event for everyone to enjoy!
Naperville’s National Night Out Movie Night Kick-Off will begin at 6PM on Mon., Aug. 1, outside the Fry Family YMCA, 2120 95th St.
This event will feature free family fun, including entertainment, activities for all ages and giveaways. Attendees can play in a bounce house, participate in games, check out police equipment, enjoy a limited amount of complimentary food (including popcorn and ice cream), and purchase food items from food trucks before setting up blankets or chairs to enjoy an outdoor showing of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto,” which will begin at sunset.
Donation Drive will benefit DuPagePads
The City of Naperville has partnered with DuPagePads for this year’s National Night Out donation drive. Bring a donated item to benefit DuPagePads to the community movie night on Aug. 1 to be entered into a drawing to win one of two children’s bicycles or a Ring video doorbell. Participating neighborhoods also are encouraged to conduct a donation drive for this worthy cause in conjunction with their National Night Out events on Aug. 2. A donation box will be provided to each registered event.
