Naperville collection will benefit families served by Loaves & Fishes Community Services

-

Above / Signs around town are reminders that donations of nonperishable items are greatly appreciated for the Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carriers’ Food Drive planned for Sat., May 14, 2022.

The National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association will partner with Loaves & Fishes Community Services during the 30th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Each year, residents are encouraged to place healthy, unexpired, nonperishable items in bags by their mailboxes on Sat., May 14, for collection by postal carriers and Loaves & Fishes volunteers.

In 2019, during the last Naperville Stamp Out Hunger, more than 86,000 pounds of food were collected from the food drive in support of families that visit Loaves & Fishes for grocery assistance.

With the nation experiencing dramatic increases in the prices of food, gas, and other basic necessities, food pantries have seen a tremendous increase in need. Loaves & Fishes has seen record numbers of people needing assistance.

“Last week (late April), Loaves & Fishes served over 5,200 people. This is 60% higher than we served in the beginning of 2022,” said Mike Havala, President and CEO of Loaves & Fishes. “We appreciate the National Association of Letter Carriers, the United States Postal Service, and the support of our entire community, and we are grateful for your donation of healthy, non-perishable food.”

“The Stamp out Hunger initiative continues to support our commitment to service. It is an honor to participate in this collaborative effort,” said Karen Change, Naperville Postmaster.

Naperville Woman’s Club also plans way to give

Members of the Naperville Woman’s Club Public Issues Committee also have organized a collection for oral hygiene items to help meet another need at the food pantry. Members have been asked to bring tooth brushes, tooth paste, dental floss, etc., to the NWC meetings on May 18 and on June 1, 2022.
