We’ve attended three weddings in the last few months. In one, the couple requested that you show proof of vaccination. The live band was great, and the dance floor was packed. It was fun to get back to old times.
In a September wedding, the service was held outdoors and masks were worn inside. The reception area was spacious, and there was social distancing. No requirements about vaccinations were mentioned.
The wedding we attended last month was also different. My great nephew got married in Michigan. He had decided not to get vaccinated, although his bride who works for the government is.
Out of COVID concern, we regretfully declined his invitation to share his blessed day. He then changed the venue to a park, so we went after all. It was cold, rainy and windy, but at least we were sheltered under a portico.
Due to awkward home life, Robert lived with us for his last two years of high school. We got official guardianship so he could play football in his senior year at Central. He has often remarked how much we meant to him. We gave him stability, his first (junker) car and unconditional love. He wanted us there, badly, so he compromised.
These are weird times. People make decisions that can affect their health and their relationships. I wish he had got vaccinated, but I applaud his willingness to accommodate us and his 30-plus odd guests.
I did, however, envy the people wearing fleece-lined hoods. The bride was beautiful and warm with her fur cape and full-length flapper-themed dress.
We were not physically warm, but there was love and mutual respect.
