I know that the past influences who I am today and who I am becoming.
Milestones, such as anniversaries and birthdays, prompt us to reflect on the past as we plan for the future. It’s also a good time to celebrate the many accomplishments that have been achieved over the years.
This year the Naperville Woman’s Club (NWC) celebrates its 125th anniversary! Started as a literary club (probably what we would today call a book club), it soon became a philanthropic organization that helped the Nichols Library become an important part of the fabric of Naperville as well as giving books to local schools.
One of the many and diverse committees was the garden committee that became an independent organization now known as the Naperville Garden Club (NGC). The two clubs have remained friends and some women are members of both clubs!
On March 1, 2022, NWC will be laying wreaths made by NGC at the graves of two of their founding members at the Naperville Cemetery. The wreaths will feature each club’s official flower—the marguerite daisy for NWC and the purple iris for NGC.
NCTV Spotlight will honor NWC and a Mayoral Proclamation regarding this important anniversary will be presented at the City Council Meeting this month.
Women in Naperville have made outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Naperville for generations. From hosting fun and profitable events and fundraisers such as the Naperville Fine Art & Artisan Fair (NWC), Witches Night Out (NWC), Plant Sales (NGC) and the Cup of Cheer™ House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea (NGC) to the support that they give by donations to our community, scholarships to our students and lending a helping hand—women in these clubs make a difference in the Naperville community.
Both clubs welcome new members and invite you to learn about our history and become part of our future.
