The past year saw wonderful growth in our organization. The addition of the hub and distribution facility has given us the ability to serve three times the number of people in DuPage, Will, and now Kane and Kendall counties. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the many volunteers and community members who have supported this project and will allow us to move forward in our mission and vision.
As we look to the new year and the opportunities to serve our community, we think of our neighbors in need and our desire to continue to take care of each other. With the cost of living increasing and the continued effect of the pandemic, we have seen an increased need for struggling families. They must sometimes choose between buying food and paying bills, medical procedures, or transportation. We know the fear these decisions cause for our clients. We see the concern in their eyes waiting to enter our market, and in the tone of uncertainty in the calls we receive for help with rent and utilities.
Loaves & Fishes is ready to serve, providing our clients with a sense of hope for a better year. Our volunteers and operations staff are hard at work in our new facility, rescuing fresh food, sorting and preparing it for the 1,000 families we see each week. Our CARES team is ready to assist through the LIHEAP program (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), our Emergency Assistance Program for rent and utilities, and soon our Income Tax Return Assistance Program. We are grateful for our community that is ready to provide the necessary support to ensure that people in need continue to be lifted up.
In 2021 we prepared as an organization for the next chapter. The groundwork has been laid to continue to fight hunger and transform lives. Because of your support, we are able to serve today and look forward to the impact we will make for years to come.
