Journey with Autism – Illuminate seasonal traditions

-

In ancient times, fleeing persecution was not proven to be an option.

Following one’s beliefs was dangerous and had forced consequences. Thousands of years later, how blessed are we to live in a country where we are free to worship in any place or fashion we choose.

Sadly, this freedom is not so throughout the world. The holiday season here in this country is about celebrating very different ancient stories. These stories are filled with light and courage and with miracles looming on those whose fate we still speak of today.

Holiday lights are hung in homes and on streets, stores and pretty much anywhere people choose to decorate. When we light our homes and businesses, how many of us think of why?

The season of light has to do with newfound hope, of higher purposes then simply giving gifts, and of a higher meaning that is something greater than ourselves.

The ancient tales illuminate the struggles and miraculous triumphs of both peasant and kings. Here, we know no ruler bent on our destruction; and we, unlike our ancestors have the power to bring so much healing and joy to those less fortunate than ourselves.

In honor of our past, and the traditions that include the illuminating of lights, let us remember and celebrate this season, old memories and new Hope for those who need us to open our hearts and shine the light of our love more brightly.
