In October, with great excitement, we announced the grand opening of our new hub facility in Aurora. Our grocery market, office headquarters, and CARES Programs will remain in our Naperville facility.
Our new hub facility, which is about 1.5 miles from our Naperville facility, allows us to significantly expand our service area to four counties – DuPage, Will, Kane, and Kendall. In this facility, we installed nearly 40,000 cubic feet of refrigerated/freezer space, which allows us to store and provide significantly more perishable healthy food such as fresh vegetables, fruit, milk, eggs, etc. In addition, our clients will now be able to choose three ways to get their food – they can shop in our market, order food through our online system, or pick up pre-packed food boxes curbside. Our hub and spoke model will allow us to scale our operations, and as a result, we will be able to dramatically reduce our cost to serve a family.
Importantly, our new hub and spoke model allows us to collaborate more with other organizations in our community. We are very excited about the possibility to do more with our existing and new partners.
We have been very pleased to see a tremendous amount of support in many ways from our community. Through this support, we were able to convert an overall strategy into a reality. We are incredibly thankful for all those who helped in numerous capacities over several years to accomplish this.
The core element of our strategic plan is to significantly impact families’ lives through food and programs that promote overall health and self-sufficiency. Our new facility is a catalyst for being able to do more, for more, and do it better. It’s a game-changer, and together, we are truly on the road to having a lasting impact on our community.
