The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a ribbon cutting for Naperville Elderly Homes, Inc., one of its nonprofit business members. The special event celebrated the expansion and remodeling project of Martin Avenue homes.
In 2018, Naperville Elderly Homes leadership applied for and received low-income tax credits from the Illinois Housing Development Authority and DuPage County for the purpose of constructing a new 5-story building and completely renovating all the existing Martin Avenue Apartments and community space.
Construction began during the summer of 2019 and was completed in late 2020. The ribbon-cutting recognized that the independent-living community provides homes for low-income individuals age 62-plus and persons with disabilities and the event celebrated that Martin Avenue Apartments now provides homes for nearly 200 residents.
Thanks to specially-designed programs and activities, Martin Avenue Apartments residents are welcome to enjoy active senior lifestyles. Close proximity to downtown Naperville offers easy access to shopping, doctors, dentists, parks and recreational facilities. Edward Hospital is practically next door.
Executive Director Mary Kerbs noted,“ We are excited to grow NEH’s vision for Martin Avenue Apartments. It is a model community with proven success. By driving the goals of community engagement and partnerships, we are building an enriching and secure future for our senior citizens.”
Presentations were followed by tours of the new construction.
