WDSRA: Sensory Garden Play Days are back

-

Yes, they are. Saturdays: June 19, July 17, August 21, September 18. And they come with free goodie bags for the first 50 kids.

The Sensory Garden Playground (SGP) team will be handing out activity bags to the first 50 children from 10-11AM at every Play Day. Each bag contains coloring pages, themed fidgets and craft/activity instructions.

In case you haven’t been there yet, the SGP is a universally accessible playground which allows ALL children, with and without disabilities, to play together. It is a barrier-free environment where all children can feel comfortable doing what they do best…play.  It is a combination of sensory-integration playground equipment and amenities.

If you have a family member with special needs, the SGP has you covered. Everything can be reached easily by accessible paths. This is especially beneficial for those individuals with physical disabilities whether it be children or family members.

This one-of-a-kind playground is perfect for families with small children and you can head out there anytime like with any park local playground. There children can bang on the drums (always easier on the ears when done outside), climb on the horses (don’t worry the statues are built for climbing), and trek through the elevated treehouse (slides make it even more fun to slide down). There is so much to explore.

The Play Days are created especially for families and usually offer activity stations. Unfortunately, those are not planned for this summer but they will be back next year. But don’t worry, the goodie bags are full of extras to keep you and your little one busy.

The 2021 summer Play Days are June 19, July 17, August 21, September 18 from 10AM to noon. They are free and open to the public, located at 2751 Navistar Dr., Lisle. (near the intersection of Naper Blvd. and Navistar Dr.). Play Days are held rain or shine. For severe weather updates, check the event status on Rainout Line through the Wheaton Park District.
