Naperville police investigate weekend criminal incidents, seek witnesses with information

NAPERVILLE CRIME STOPPERS are offering a cash reward for the following incident:

May 16, 2021 / Naperville Police investigate shooting

On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at approximately 5:39PM, officers from the Naperville Police Department responded to several 911 calls of shots fired in the 600 block of South Route 59 (near Aurora Avenue).

Witnesses reported one victim was struck and transported from the scene by unknown people prior to police arrival. Responding officers secured the area and attempts at locating a suspect where met with negative results.

During the initial investigation it was also learned that a citizen, who possessed a valid
Illinois Concealed Carry License, used their personal firearm to shoot at the suspect. After this occurred, the suspect fled the area.

A short time later, officers responded to an area hospital when it was learned the victim had arrived for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The incident is under investigation and information has been developed to indicate the victim was likely targeted. A section of the retail property located in the 600 block of south Route 59 was blocked off for several hours while the scene was processed.

No other injuries were reported from this incident. It was also learned that there was an uninvolved, occupied vehicle that was struck during the gunfire. The lone occupant of that vehicle was not injured.

 Suspect description: Male, White or Hispanic, late teens or early 20’s, approximately 5’6”, wearing a dark hoody and dark ski mask. It is believed that the suspect fled the area in a yet-to-be-identified vehicle.

May 15, 2021 / NPD investigate stabbing in downtown Naperville

On Friday, May 14, 2021, at approximately 8:59PM, Naperville Police responded to a 911 call for a fight in the alley behind the Water Street parking deck, near Webster St.

Responding officers located a juvenile stabbing victim in the pharmacy parking lot of 400 S. Main St.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

After a preliminary investigation, a juvenile was arrested in connection with this incident.

The victim and the offender knew each other and engaged in a physical altercation prior to the stabbing. The crime, however, remains under investigation and charges are pending.
