Journey with Autism – Columnist takes time to be grateful to individuals who serve

-

When I listen intently to my sister fill me in on what pilots sacrifice to fly planes in the Air Force, I’m boldly done thinking I’m brave in any sort of definition of the word.

Sacredly guarding and defending us, I never knew in my life how much goes into being a pilot of fighter jets.

Beginning with training, pilots flying the most powerful jets risk their lives learning to join planes to fuel jets, maneuver in darkness and navigate in very stressful and dangerous situations. In six known cases in 2020, young fighter pilots lost their lives in training.

We are still in a long and difficult war in the Middle East. Men and women are holding the fort down in faraway lands, away from their families and in dangerous and difficult environments.

Somehow this past year as we have been fighting a war against a virus, we seem to have forgotten these men and women. COVID-19 has further been a huge issue to fan the flames of difficulty in the military.

As I band to my sister, she educates me on how her husband takes care of these pilots as their very important doctor.

When we think of all that goes into protecting us, other countries, and our democracy and how we boldly keep the peace, I’m doing more thanks and making sure to remember with incredible pride our men and women who love their country and serve us all.
