Naperville firefighters respond to residential structure fire on Estes Ct.

-

At 8:31PM on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received an activated fire alarm and dispatched a duel response to a 2-story, multi-family residential structure on the 1100 block of Estes Ct.

Approximately four minutes after dispatch a call came into Naperville 911 (PSAP) from an occupant of the building advising to PSAP a structure fire at the same address. PSAP upgraded the dispatch to a general alarm assignment consisting of ten pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address. PSAP also advised the complex to have all occupants evacuate the building.

At 8:37PM Squad 8 arrived on scene and identified smoke and fire showing from the attic of the 2-story multi-family home. Incident command was established, and Squad 8 began a 360-degree survey of the building. While that size-up was in progress a report of people still in the building was relayed to crews on scene and an immediate entry into the structure was made.

Three people were assisted from the building by firefighters and evaluated on scene with no injuries reported. Fire companies quickly identified fire coming from the attic and chimney of the home. Fire companies stretched hose lines into the structure, utilizing an aggressive interior attack with coordinated ventilation to properly extinguish the fire. Primary and secondary searches were conducted, with no additional occupants found. Companies on scene conducted overhaul and ventilation to expose any areas of high heat and remove smoke from the home.

The fire was contained to the attic and second floor of the home, with crews able to fully extinguish the fire within 45 minutes. The occupant who phoned in the call to PSAP of the structure fire, relayed that they were alerted by the on-site fire alarm system. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department the Naperville Electric Department, NICOR and the Transportation, Engineering, and Development team. Station Coverage was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District, and the Bolingbrook Fire Department.

The cause is fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department fire investigation team. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on scene. With the exception of the fire unit the remainder of the building was deemed to be habitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team.
