Naper Settlement has announced a call for women who lived in the Peter E. Kroehler Memorial Residence Hall for a photo opportunity planned at 2PM on Sat., Feb. 27. An important part of Naperville’s history, the Peter E. Kroehler Memorial Residence Hall housed thousands of North Central College students from 1948 to 1976.

The museum is seeking former residents to participate in the photo opportunity, as well as share their stories and memories for the Naper Settlement Collection.

No RSVP is required for the photo opportunity. Participants will meet Naper Settlement staff on the sidewalk outside the residence hall located at 126 N. Wright Street starting at 1:50 PM with the photo being taken promptly at 2PM. The public can also submit stories and photos at NaperSettlement.org/ResidenceHallMemories.

“We look forward to gathering the stories and hearing the memories of the women who lived in Peter E. Kroehler Memorial Residence Hall. Their unique perspectives will help illustrate how Naperville changed after World War II and how North Central College played an important role in expanding opportunities for women in a collegiate setting,” said Rena Tamayo-Calabrese, Naper Settlement’s president and CEO.

After World War II, North Central College had an increased need to house incoming students and subsequently purchased the Peter E. Kroehler mansion and grounds at 126 N. Wright Street in 1945. The mansion was used as a residence hall and guest house. Within three years, a women’s dormitory was constructed on the site and dedicated as the Peter E. Kroehler Memorial Residence Hall in 1948.
