Turning Pointe Autism Foundation: Recognize important milestones

-

In February, we celebrate Black History Month along with Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, President’s, and Valentine’s Days as well. All these important traditions, honors, education, and celebrations crammed into just 28 days! If you do some online searches, you’ll find this little month also hosts National Tater Tot, Ukulele, and Banana Bread Day.

Turning Pointe will recognize these important milestones in our school programs this month. But mostly, our students, families, and teams will celebrate that our school home has been completed.

The dream to build ideal learning environments for our friends and family learning with autism at 1500 W. Ogden, Naperville, has come to a conclusion. The entire building has been transformed into ten total classrooms, three sensory rooms, a Krieger Computer Lab, a DuPage Medical Group Foundation Nurses’ Station, an Occupational Therapy gym, a proper cafeteria(s), a clinicians’ collaborative space, and a staff lounge are all just part of our school home. No more “open area” or “chill space.” Everything has a purpose and our physical space reflects the level of professional work happening every day of our mission.

The OT gym will even have a new state of the art BEAM sensory projector which was donated through our Coleman Foundation grant. It is a joy to have our “insides” match the heart and soul of the work that happens at Turning Pointe every day.

You – our remarkable community – were invaluable in making all this happen. Trusting us with your students, supporting our events, and remaining generous to our cause in 2020 so we could remain open for in-person instruction! Turning Pointe’s best practice interventions make a difference. The list of families still seeking our programs continues to grow. And we will plan a grand re-opening soon. But know that with so much to celebrate in February, we celebrate you and your commitment to our work. The sixty students in our care now remain the why. You are the how. And, together, we are Turning Pointe.
