Focus on Safety – Partnerships

-

Finally 2021 is here! Last year was so challenging for so many of us mentally, physically and/or financially. While there were countless negatives resulting from the pandemic, there were also many positives. We found ourselves pulling together as a community in many ways that had not been done before. Working with our community partners to help those struggling and finding new, unique ways to connect with residents. The City of Naperville’s strong commitment to partnering with the community to reach a common goal is one of the reasons Naperville not only is a great place to live or work, but also is consistently named one of the safest cities of its size in the United States.

The Naperville Police Department strives to collaborate with residents, businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and other organizations to keep crime rates low, address problems as they arise and proactively make our community “A Safer Naper.” These partnerships and their impact on the community will be the focus of our Safer Naper campaign in 2021.

Crime prevention and safety is a partnership. This year we encourage you to be our partners! You can start by learning more about and taking advantage of the various proactive programs we provide to the community.

Did you have a little extra time over the holidays to clean out your basement and are now looking to sell an item on an online forum? Safely make the exchange at the Naperville Police Department’s Internet Safe Sale Zone. This safe sale zone helps reduce the risks associated with meeting a stranger to complete a purchase that began online.

For those who need help safeguarding firearms in their homes, we offer free cable-style gun locks through a partnership with Project ChildSafe. Our Firearm Take Back Program allows residents to rid their homes of unwanted guns, thereby eliminating the risk of theft, misuse or accidental discharge.

We also have a Prescription Drug Drop Box Program, which allows residents to reduce the risk of misuse or abuse of old/unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medications by safely disposing of medications in one of the City’s 11 drop boxes.

As you can see, it doesn’t take much to be our partners and begin adopting crime prevention measures. We encourage you to learn more about these and other offerings and to keep up with the 2021 Safer Naper campaign online at www.naperville.il.us/asafernaper, on Facebook and on Twitter.

We look forward to partnering with you and explaining more about the other partnerships we foster to make our community “A Safer Naper.”

Until next month… Stay Aware and Stay Safe.
