‘Sam & Joe’ by Jared Moser

“Sam & Joe” is a comic strip featuring a couple of colorful characters created by Jared Moser. Moser recently returned to school, so look for the cartoon, frame by frame, again to be featured monthly online at www.positivelynaperville.com.

Find the comic strip printed in the monthly publication, too.

Cartoonist Moser, hailing from Wheeling, Illinois, is now a sophomore at North Central College, studying journalism and media communications, with a minor in animation. He plays volleyball and golf for North Central, resulting in receiving ACVA national player of the week, and conference freshman of the year for volleyball.

After a chance meeting in February 2020 at the North Central College WONC Radio Station (89.1 FM Pure Rock), Moser submitted samples of his work. In March 2020, Positively Naperville’s publisher began running his comics featuring a couple of his buddies, Sam and Joe.

Moser says “Sam & Joe” started off “as a doodle in a middle school note book, and with the influences of Calvin & Hobbes, and Big Nate,” the teenage “best friends” grew into the bickering sidekicks they are today.

Originally created in black and white, Moser has depicted the dynamic duo in response to Daylight Saving Time, St. Patrick’s Day, April Fools, Mother’s Day, heading back to school, Trick or Treat and autumn leaves.  During the summer, Moser turned his comic strip into living color.

December 2020 ‘Sam & Joe’ all in a row

“I’ve drawn two comics for the December issue, but they are very different in style,” wrote Moser. “One is lots of words and more of an existential piece titled “The Mass of Men. It’s less comedy and more serious. The other is no words (as pictured above), but a slap-stick concept.”

The Mass of Men

Enjoy the monthly episodes of these best buddies in print and online!

“Sam & Joe” will be presented again in print in the monthly publication, available in the rack at a Positively Naperville pick-up location beginning Jan. 6, 2021. PN always waits a few days after the holidays to go to press to avoid having the publication tossed out with all the holiday wrapping paper. Thanks for reading!
