School District 204 Superintendent’s Message to the Community / Dec. 11, 2020

-

Indian Prairie School District 204 administration offices are located at 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora, in DuPage County, Illinois. School District 204, the fourth largest school district in Illinois, is home to 33 schools including one preschool, 21 elementary schools, seven middle schools, three high schools and one alternative high school. The school district serves students in portions of Naperville, Aurora, Bolingbrook and Plainfield.

Dear District 204 Community,

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D. Superintendent

I hope you enjoyed the recent Thanksgiving Break and are looking forward to the upcoming Winter Break that starts on December 21. As shared with you before Thanksgiving, we are pausing our transition to hybrid until the week of January 18.

Beginning January 19, we plan to transition to hybrid and will bring students into our schools for the families who chose in-person learning. That week, we will bring back early childhood, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and our elementary pilot classrooms.

Parents who chose in-person learning for their children in grades 3 through 5 will have the opportunity to send their children to school the week of January 25.

For middle school, the transition will be phased in by grade level beginning January 19 with students needing intervention. By the first week of February, all middle school grade levels will return for the families who chose in-person learning.

High school finals take place the week of January 18. Students needing intervention will have the opportunity to be in school that week, with all other high school students who chose in-person learning returning to the classroom beginning the following week.

Special education students who were coming to school for in-person instruction or related services will resume their schedule of receiving services on January 19.

We will be discussing our transition to hybrid at the December 14 Board of Education meeting. The meeting will be streamed live on our YouTube channel beginning at 7PM. Your school will be sharing more information related to your child’s grade level and the transition to hybrid in the weeks to come.

Throughout this challenging school year, we have remained committed to returning our students to the classroom. We have had to navigate how to do so in the face of an evolving pandemic that in many ways has divided our nation and our community. The safety and well-being of our students, including their social emotional needs and academic success, is not something any superintendent or school board takes lightly. I believe the hybrid plan we started implementing in October provides a safe option for families who want in-person instruction, while also providing an option for families who want to continue with remote learning. We look forward to continuing the implementation of our plan in January.

I appreciate your continued support.

Sincerely,

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
