Sales Focus – Set 7-day goals and heat up your sales

-

In the sales coaching world, the wheel of life has six spokes (or six goals): Financial, Spiritual, Social, Professional, Developmental and Personal. The desire is to have a rounded life, where effort to achieve each goal is near 100%, so our ride on the wheel is smooth and not bumpy.

There are specialists who can help with your Financial, Spiritual and Social goals. You alone are responsible for your Professional, Developmental and Personal goals. You begin this journey by setting ‘7-day goals.’ Short range goals are great confidence builders.

A seven-day personal goal could be shovel the back patio, clean off your desk or exercise twice. A developmental goal could be start reading a book on networking or listen to a social media or SEO podcast. A seven-day business goal could be obtain one new customer or reach out to a current customer to determine if they would like to reorder.

By setting short term, achievable goals, you will begin seeing results in as little as seven days. At first, the results will not be good. After a few weeks, your results will be good. Accountability is easy. You exercised or you didn’t. You called a current customer or you didn’t. You shoveled or you didn’t. If the results were not good, set the same goal for the next seven days or revise the goal. Reaching short range goals builds enthusiasm and helps you form successful habits.

A few years ago, I used to run three miles in 24 minutes. Today, I was winded after putting a few boxes of Thanksgiving decorations in the attic. There is no way I can run three miles. An achievable goal is run a half mile twice a week. We will see what kind of results I achieve.

Remember, accountability is as important as setting goals. Good results will not happen if you do not measure your progress. Schedule time in your planner to complete these goals and don’t be late to your appointments. To paraphrase the Dalai Lama, our goal is not to be better than other people; it’s just to be better than our previous selves.

Set 7-day personal, developmental and business goals to feel better about yourself and Heat Up Your Sales!
