The holidays are definitely going to be different this year. Person after person has mentioned not being able to get together with loved ones. Small gatherings of immediate family only will be norm.
I know several that will be a “party of one.” It’s such an unusual situation and yet, I’ve been inspired by the new ways people are planning to celebrate. From Zoom cookie decorating together to sending family members matching pajamas, people determined to celebrate are making it happen. Happily, new traditions are emerging that may return year after year.
Some people are foregoing expensive gifts so they can contribute to families in need. In lieu of presents, they are making donations in their family members’ names. We have beautiful cards that say, “A gift has been made to Loaves & Fishes in your honor by….” that provide a meaningful reminder of such a special present. We have been so touched by the groups that have encouraged each other to participate in our virtual food drive which includes holiday meals.
For $35, you can make sure a family receives all the groceries necessary to make a delicious holiday meal, including the turkey. And we’re thrilled that Dealer Inspire will be presenting REFUEL virtually December 16 – there is no charge to attend but instead, people are asked to contribute to Loaves & Fishes. The inspiring line-up of speakers will kick start your plans for a promising New Year.
There is no doubt about it, December of 2020 will be unlike anything we have ever experienced. If you can, help us make sure families in need are remembered. That holiday spirit is welcomed whatever the year or circumstances. Such generosity could become a wonderful new tradition for you and your family and is a true gift for our Loaves & Fishes families.
