The Y – Time for thoughts of holidays

-

Above / With memories of the Annual Mayor’s Community Interfaith Prayer Breakfast held at the Fry Family YMCA on the first Friday in December, this year’s event to kick off the holidays will be held virtually.

The holidays offer a sense of “escapism” for us. It is the time when we can celebrate with family and friends and we find joy in the decorations, celebrations, treats, and the holiday cheer.

COVID-19, however, will alter much of these celebrations, and holiday cheer may look much different. The 2020 Holidays can be a chance for a new kind of celebrations, joy and a welcome relief to what has been a whirlwind of a year.

The list of what has been disrupted this year is not short. Many of us are missing the people we cannot be with in-person right now. That makes it more important than ever to be there for the people who are near you. Support your household members, neighbors, essential workers, and your coworkers. This year is the time for courage and compassion. Be ready to listen and offer a friendly reminder: We have this.

You matter and so do the members of our community. We are grateful that you are making sacrifices and helping the community fight this disease. Finding ways to stay in touch, celebrate and mark the holidays is important. Consider new traditions. What is important to you and your family during this time? Connecting with others in new ways to create new memories will help keep alive the joy of the season.

The YMCA of Naperville is continuing with the tradition of the YMCA Mayor’s Interfaith Community Breakfast on Dec. 4. This year’s event will be virtual and will be continuing the tradition of kicking off the holiday season for many in the community. The theme this year is One Community, Together.

We are thankful to our Event Sponsor Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, and invite the community to join us in this wonderful event. Celebrate this year from the comfort of your home, pajama attire is acceptable.

Warm holiday wishes to you and your family.
