Dear District 204 Community,

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D. Superintendent

The DuPage County Health Department released its updated COVID-19 School Metrics today. The data continues to show a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in our area. The new cases per 100,000 increased from 152 to 222, and there was a 62 percent increase in the number of youth cases reported. The county remains in Substantial Community Transmission. As a result, we will continue in remote learning through November 13.

The Illinois High School Association announced last week that it will proceed with basketball as a winter sport. This is in conflict with the Illinois Department of Public Health’s guidance. We are currently awaiting counsel from our attorney and insurer on this issue and will communicate a decision as to how our district will proceed once we have their guidance.

It is clear that the health department data is currently trending in the wrong direction. In order to transition to our hybrid model, the health department must report a move from Substantial to Moderate Community Transmission for two consecutive weeks. The only way that will occur is if we collectively do our part to slow the spread of COVID. I am urging you to please wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, adhere to social distancing and stay home when you do not feel well.

Sincerely,

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.
Superintendent
