September is Hunger Action Month! Feeding America’s annual Hunger Action Month initiative encourages our community to take action and become part of the solution to end hunger. They use the color orange to draw attention to this initiative and invite the public to “go orange” on September 10.
According to Feeding America, in 2020, more than 54.3 million people may face hunger because of coronavirus, including a potential 18 million children. Just two years ago, the number struggling with hunger was 37 million.
Often, hunger and food insecurity go unnoticed. People are struggling to provide healthy, nutritious food for their families right here in our own backyard. These people include our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. During the pandemic, Loaves & Fishes has seen a surge in those needing help, and we anticipate that the need will continue to grow over the next several months.
Without awareness of a problem, people cannot take action to remedy it, so here’s how you can help! Donate funds: Every donation of any size is deeply appreciated. Your funds provide vital support in the efforts to help struggling families. Donate food: Loaves & Fishes is once again accepting physical food donations. Healthy, non-expired food is always appreciated. You can also make a food donation through our Virtual Food Drive. From the comfort of your own home, you can purchase products at discounted prices that are most needed by our clients. Donate your time/volunteer: Your time is very valuable to helping fight hunger. Sorting food, filling boxes, or distributing food to those in need can be very beneficial and rewarding.
Join us on September 10 for “Go Orange Day!” Wear orange on this day to raise awareness for hunger in our community. More information about how you can take action, transform lives, and end hunger is available at www.loaves-fishes.org.
