I have always been someone that seeks out music; and being a music journalist comes with a certain amount of music seeking me out through publicists and artist management.
One of the best “silver linings” that I have seen come from this quarantine is the live streaming of concerts, which is the artists knocking on your virtual door and asking to be invited inside your home to perform for you.
This is a very difficult time for musicians and entertainers of all kinds. Theaters and concert venues are all closed, and performances are being postponed and canceled every day.
Many artists have made “Zoom” a household word by streaming performances through the app. Other outlets for these in-home concerts might include Instagram and Facebook Live as well. Virtual tip jars are set up through services like PayPal and Venmo, allowing you to show your support and appreciation for some pretty special moments.
Many of the musicians that are streaming performances are doing so from their homes. Seeing your favorite artist sitting on a stool in their living room while they perform really enhances the personal nature of things.
I don’t feel like I’m attending a concert, I feel like we’re just hanging out together. Each time I watch one of these live streamed performances I think to myself, “This wouldn’t be happening were it not for this horrible pandemic.”
The strange dichotomy of sadness and joy is something very unique, and right now I will take joy, no matter how it’s packaged.
Find a live stream of your favorite musicians and support them if you can!
