Hosted by the American Legion Post 43, the Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser will be held March 28 at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, located at 908 W. Jackson Avenue. west of downtown Naperville.

Local Veterans are set to host the American Legion Chili Cook-Off and fundraiser on Sat., March 28, a benefit for the continued service of Naperville resident Wayne Fischer who is currently serving as Sr. Vice Commander, American Legion, Department of Illinois.

In July 2020, Fischer will assume responsibilities as Commander of the Department of Illinois during the State Convention, according to Jim Vahle for American Legion Post 43.

This well-deserved honor for Fischer also shines light on Naperville American Legion Post 43.  Fischer’s talents and determination to contribute to the American Legion and the many programs it sponsors, as well as his dedication to other civic and local service organizations, are appreciated in Naperville and across the state, Vahle added.

During American Legion dinner socials held throughout the year, Wayne Fischer is known to provide the run down of upcoming events that benefit Veterans and their families.

Many of Fischer’s efforts are centered around what the American Legion refers to as its “Four Pillars” Those Four Pillars are “Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth.”

Vahle explained that the two-year period of Fischer’s service as Vice Commander and Commander entails travel throughout the state of Illinois and to many national functions. While his major travel and lodging expenses are covered, many incidental expenses that are not. So members of American Legion Post 43 decided to throw a fundraiser.

Chili Cook-Off-Plus

The Chili Cook-Off is planned at VFW Post 3873’s Kendall Hall. Chili, complete with all the fixings, will be prepared in a big pot by the Kendall cooks to tide folks over until the judging of the chili competition is complete. After a winner is determined, “guests can dig into all the delectable creations,” Vahle said.

Further, live entertainment is planned along with a cash bar, raffles of donated craft goods, white elephant baskets, tickets, wine baskets and whatever else Naperville’s generous businesses and citizens will donate.

Come for a good cause; bring friends and neighbors, and join the fun that starts at 5:30PM on Sat., March 28.  Admission is $10 per person. Also, bring a little extra cash to play the fundraising raffles for prizes.
