Every time I walk into a WDSRA program I am greeted by smiles, fist bumps and high fives! Where else does that happen!? My ego would like to think it’s because of my sparkling personality. But I know it is simply because the children, teens and adults in our programs are having a great time and are more than happy to share their joy. That warms my heart.
Unfortunately, there are obstacles that prevent some people with special needs from being able to be a part of WDSRA programs. It could be anything from a financial burden to a lack of awareness of our programs and services. That breaks my heart.
That’s why I am thrilled to tell you about the WDSRA Foundation’s signature event The Bash to support WDSRA participants and families. The Bash is held at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, March 7. We invite everyone to join us in making sure every child, teen and adult has access to special recreation and there are no obstacles preventing them from making it a part of their life.
Our theme this year … ACCESS FOR EVERYONE. BARRIERS FOR NO ONE.
Your support will impact the lives of individuals and families in significant ways. You will make it possible for individuals to find friends and open opportunities that may not exist in other areas of their lives. You’ll not only be putting a smile on their faces and hope in their hearts, but you’ll be giving families the chance to enjoy the same life experiences that most of us take for granted. Your support offers a quality of life to those who depend on special recreation to grow personally, connect with peers and the community they live in as well as discover the world around them.
The evening includes: cocktails & dinner, a robust silent auction, a chance to win $500, a very popular Wine & Spirit Pull, and a LIVE auction that includes some once-in-a-lifetime experiences. As a “thank you” for your generosity, we bring you the musical talents of Lisa McClowry not once, but twice, during the evening. First, as she performs her “Rock the 80s Experience” and later as she takes over as DJ for our after-party.
