Above / This Super Bowl weekend, help Naperville Police spread the word: Fans don’t let fans drive under the influence.

Update, Feb. 7, 2020 / Super Bowl Weekend Enforcement Campaign Results in Multiple Arrests and Citations in Naperville

The Naperville Police Department today announced it made two (2) DUI arrests and issued a total of 27 citations during the recent Super Bowl enforcement campaign. The citations issued included two (2) citations for seat belt violations, two (2) citations for possession of cannabis and one (1) citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Because of these efforts to crack down on impaired drivers and ensure more people buckle up, the streets were safer over Super Bowl weekend,” said Naperville Police Sgt. Ricky Krakow. “Keeping impaired drivers off the roads saves lives.”

The Super Bowl weekend “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” enforcement effort ran from Friday, Jan. 31, through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 3. The campaign was made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.

Original Post, Feb. 1, 2010 / With the Super Bowl just around the corner, the Naperville Police Department is reminding football fans and partygoers that they will be out in force on game day to keep impaired drivers off the roads and encourage more people to wear their seat belts. If your Super Bowl celebration will involve alcohol or cannabis, don’t forget: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket.”

“Because many Illinoisans watch the Super Bowl with friends while enjoying an array of snacks and adult beverages, it’s important that they plan ahead for safe rides home,” said Naperville Police Sgt. Ricky Krakow. “Even one drink or hit can impair judgement. You should never put yourself or others at risk because you made the choice to drive impaired. Just one is one too many.”

Create a safe game plan

If you’re ready for some Super Bowl fun, make a game plan for a safe and enjoyable time:

  • Designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
  • Walking impaired can also be dangerous. If you plan to walk, designate a sober friend to walk you home.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, pull over and contact law enforcement.
  • Have a friend who is about to drive impaired? Take the keys away and arrange to get your friend home safely.
  • Hosting a party? Serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages and make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
  • Always buckle up! It’s your best defense in case of a crash.

The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” programs are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
