Trivia games add fun to Quigley’s

-

Above / After the Noon Lions Club Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day, the friendly folks at Quigley’s Irish Pub welcomed revelers who gathered on November 28 to cheer for all folks known to “Run fast. Eat Later. No Penalty.” See some of them below. Q: Can you name them?

If Guinness were the choice on Thanksgiving, what’s the beer of the month for December? Hint: Smithwick’s Draft.

It’s December. And if it’s the first Tuesday of the month, it’s time for another West Suburban Irish Quiz Night to begin at 7PM. Everybody’s welcome! Build a team with up to eight players. Admission is free. Let the fun begin…

“We appreciate all the fun-loving teams and the feedback we receive from folks who regularly attend our West Suburban Irish Quiz Nights,” said owner Nancy Quigley. “We’ll be kicking off 2020 on Jan. 7 with a bunch of new categories that reflect the interests of our patrons… all in the spirit we intended for folks to compete for our silly prizes… Meanwhile, we have plenty planned for the holidays throughout December. My favorite is when Santa and the Leprechaun stop by for pictures with families…this year on December 8.”

Recap of a few festivities in November…

Quigley’s Irish Pub, the popular gathering place where regulars say they’re part of EDAQ (Every Day at Quigley’s), marked its 21st anniversary on Nov. 17, 2019.

Quigley’s is where an Irish Breakfast is served beginning at 10AM until noon Saturdays and Sundays.

Open every day except certain holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Day, Quigley’s also is the go-to place where sports enthusiasts watch rugby and soccer; clubs hold quiz nights, meetings, fundraisers and special events; families host bridal and baby showers as well as family reunions. Live music is played Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

This past year, revelers such as Ian Holzhauer also chose Quigley’s as a fun place to host a number of Jeopardy! Watch Parties. By the end of Jeopardy! on Fri., Nov. 15, crowds were cheering “Congratulations, James Holzhauer!” along with Ian Holzhauer and his family when “Jeopardy! James” did it again! Now former Naperville resident James Holzhauer, known as a professional gambler from Las Vegas, is the 2019 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions Champion.

Q: Do you know the date of the first Jeopardy! Watch Party at Quigley’s hosted on the Friday before a two-week break for a teachers’ tournament last spring?

Spectators filled Quigley’s Irish Pub during another watch party organized by Ian Holzhauer, two days prior to Quigley’s 21st anniversary.
Pictured with Nancy Quigley and Christine Jeffries,  the Zedikers say thanks from their watch seats to James Holzhauer for also being their “champ” for his help raising awareness for pancreatic cancer research via Lustgarten.

The finalists organized a fundraiser for the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, explained Ann Zediker, encouraging viewers at home to donate $1 for each of their correct responses in the final round in honor of Trebek, 79, and Larry Martin, the 2018 Teachers Tournament winner, who died of pancreatic cancer in early 2019. Later Zediker on World Pancreatic Cancer Day, Nov. 21, said, “James continues to impress me!”

James Holzhauer wrote, “I’m known for wagers that represent significant numbers in my life, such as the dates of my wedding and my child’s birth. Last week’s Tournament of Champions final was Alex’s 8030th Jeopardy episode, and my first thought was to donate $8030 to the Lustgarten Foundation to celebrate the career of the real Greatest of All Time. But that would sell Alex short—he’ll have hosted 8670 episodes when his contract runs out in 2022. So $8670 seemed right.”

Q: What color illuminated Moser Tower for World Pancreatic Cancer Day on Nov. 21?

Every Monday at Quigley’s / EMAQ

Groups also are known for “Every Monday at Quigley’s” or “EMAQ,” folks who start the week every Monday with $5 Burger Night at Quigley’s Irish Pub. Friends come to build a better Angus burger with a variety of available toppings and cheeses, priced accordingly. Pick a room, any room, where you can push tables together. From the Cigar Room (It’s just a name. No smoking at Quigley’s!) to the Cottage Room, receive a warm welcome and get together with friends.

Monday also is when a kid can eat free with one paying adult and two kids can eat free with two paying adults, compliments of Quigley’s.

Check the menu for daily specials through Thursday, mindful that every day offers a homemade “Soup of the Day,” too.

More Memories Made at Quigley’s / MMMAQ

From left, Bob Beyer, Nancy Quigley, Rich Feetitsch, Stacey Abe, Linda Feketitsch, Patrictk Feketitsch and Pat Bowler attracted plenty of onlookers as they tried to get Flynn, Charlie, Baxter, Murphy, Milo, Stockton and Murphy-the-elder to sit still for a photo that could be used for a pot of goldens.
