The Y – Connecting as a community

-

Belonging and feeling connected are important to each individual’s well-being. Being a part of a group or community helps nurture our human connection. I feel blessed to be part of such a vibrant community and am thankful to those groups and individuals I am connected to each day. The connections and relationships we have developed is the common thread that brings us together to advocate and support each other.

Communities can be rich in resources. We are all part of communities, beyond Naperville. Our communities can include our church, school, recreation programs, service organizations, neighborhood groups and our families. Communities are where we find happiness in good times and comfort in times that are more difficult. For me, community is where we find the balance in physical and mental well-being

As we enter the holiday season, it is a time for celebration, but also a time to remember those who may be struggling. In today’s world, we rely on each other for practical purpose, and our kindness can make a difference in the lives of others. At the YMCA, we work with many young people, and each day we help them to understand the importance of kindness, and how it helps to make our communities better and stronger.

The Naperville YMCAs are excited to again be hosting the YMCA Mayor’s Interfaith Community Breakfast on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Fry YMCA. This event is an opportunity to bring the entire community together to not only celebrate, but remember the importance of community and how together we make a difference. Please join us for this celebration; you can sign up by contacting the YMCA at (630) 904-9595 or jbowers@ymcachicago.org

We are looking forward to connecting with the community and celebrating the season.
