Fire Prevention 24-7 – New program for older adults

-

Falls in and around the home are a top cause of injuries to older adults. Older adults are also at a greater risk than others of perishing in a house fire. Many of these and other injuries result from hazards that are easy to overlook, but also easy to fix. By spotting these hazards and taking simple steps to correct them, you can prevent injuries to yourself or visitors to your home.

The Naperville Fire Department is excited to announce a new initiative for any senior resident who is living independently. The Senior Home Fire Safety Surveys will involve a walk-through of the residence, where we can help identify any fire or fall hazards. The team also will be equipped to install new 10-year battery operated smoke alarms** if needed, as well as provide a new carbon monoxide alarm.

Need a fire extinguisher? You’ll get that, too! Recommendations for safety improvements will be made as well.

Did I forget to mention the best part? The program is FREE!

So, if you would like to take part in this amazing new senior initiative, email me at soraya.mclaughlin@naperville.il.us to get placed on the schedule. The dates available this month are Wed., Aug. 7 and Tues., Aug. 13, with more dates to follow.

**If your smoke alarms are hard wired, we can’t change those out, but can discuss options with you.

SAVE THE DATE: The Stop, Drop and Run 5K Run/Walk and Public Safety Open House are on Sat., Sept. 21, 2019. For more information, visit, www.naperville.il.us/psoh.
