FORE! A good cause.

-

‘Tis the season…. for golf and giving. While most of us anxiously and patiently awaited summer this year, true golf enthusiasts know that if it’s above freezing and there is no snow on the ground, it’s game on, and you can bet they’ve been practicing and preparing their game for months.

This year Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is fortunate to have two amazing opportunities for both the social golfer and the serious golfer to enjoy some great golf while giving back. On Monday, August 5, 670 the SCORE, Chicago’s number one sports radio station, will host a charity golf outing at Seven Bridges Golf Club featuring hosts Dan McNeil and Danny Parkins along with many other SCORE personalities on site. There will be a live broadcast with Bernstein and McKnight beginning at 9AM.

All proceeds go toward Turning Pointe to “create opportunities to educate and enhance the lives of individuals with autism through proven interventions, to increase independence and encourage meaningful lifelong pursuits, and to enrich the family and community at large.”

On Monday, (it seems to be a good day for a golf outing) September 9, Turning Pointe will host its 13th Annual golf outing at Edgewood Valley Country Club in LaGrange.

This year’s golf outing will be hosted by Dr. Joseph Franco and will feature a brunch, shotgun start at 10AM with cocktails, dinner and silent and live auction beginning at 3:30PM. One of the highlights golfers and spectators alike look forward to is the live auction of the exclusive Lexus Champions for Charities golf experience held at Pebble Beach each year.

This coveted trip is a once in a lifetime experience. Former winner, Liz Staruck exclaimed, “It was the trip of a lifetime! So well organized, over the top golf, food and wine. Peter Jacobson and Johnny Miller were gracious hosts and attended all of the cocktail parties and dinners. We got to play Spy Glass on our own until dusk. Truly it was better than our honeymoon!” (Yes, I verified that!)

According to Barb Brauer, Turning Pointe Autism Foundation’s Development and Operations Director, “This exclusive golf outing is known to be a golfer’s golf outing. The play is modified scramble where the golfers’ play from the best tee shot and then each golfer plays their own ball to experience the history of the original 1920’s terrain that is exclusive to Edgewood Valley Country Club.”

Beware … fierce competition for the win tends to break out every year and Benny the Bull just might show up and try to throw off your game. You never know who you might see out there.

This year we are excited that all proceeds will go towards construction costs to add classrooms, occupational therapy space, as well as a brand-new life skills kitchen to better serve our students needs in promoting lifelong success and independence.

Here’s to many albatrosses, hole in ones, eagles, birdies and even the occasional bogey or mulligan. Play well my friends!
