The Naperville Municipal Band kicked off its Thursday Night Summer Concert Series with “The Greatest Generation,” a concert to salute all World War II veterans and their families – on the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
During the concert, the Band performed favorites reminiscent of the swing era in the 1940s. Other songs from The Longest Day as well as Victory at Sea helped recognize pride and incredible sacrifices for freedom on D-Day, recognizing military service and the legacy of the “Greatest Generation,” mindful that “Freedom is not Free.”In addition, Daniel Wilczynski was presented with the 2019 Ronald J. Keller Music Scholarship, a $2,500 award. Wilczynski recently graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School and plans to study music education at college this fall. The concert also featured 8th Grade Scholarship recipients from Naperville area middle schools.
