For the month of June, Community Access Naperville (C.A.N.) has placed green bins to collect and recycle used crayon pieces at all three branches of the Naperville Public Library: Nichols Library at 200 W. Jefferson Avenue; Naper Boulevard Library at 2015 S. Naperville Boulevard, and 95th Street Library at 3015 Cedar Glade Road.
Organizers of the C.A.N. crayon collection campaign encourage folks help spread the word. Help let family, friends, neighbors, teachers and members of service clubs know about this opportunity to recycle used crayons left over from this past school year.
Community Access Naperville participants peel, sort and bake crayons in special molds to create the cute colorful super crayon sets available for sale online with other items as a fundraising initiative for C.A.N. All crayon donations are much appreciated.
What’s more, individuals with crayon pieces to donate also can contact C.A.N. at info@communityaccessnaperville.org to arrange to drop crayons off at your convenience. In fact, crayon donations are welcome any time of the year.
Since 2011, Community Access Naperville has aimed “to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work in, contribute to, and enjoy their community” via its Vocational and Recreational Program for Young Adults with Developmental Disabilities. The first official C.A.N. sessions took place two Saturdays per month beginning in January 2012, and added weekly Friday sessions in September, 2012. C.A.N. has been growing ever since. Today C.A.N. offers weekly programming Monday through Friday, plus two Saturdays per month.
