Casey’s Foods Naperville announces new ownership

Above / With memories of watching a crew at Casey’s Foods change its sign in 2015, today independent grocer Dan Casey announced change in ownership beginning June 1, 2019, “with the same commitment to excellent service, product and community.” (PN File Photo, Sept. 2015)

Update, Jan. 19, 2023 / With a very heavy heart and condolences to his family, today we report that our longtime friend and generous community supporter, Dan Casey, age 67, died earlier today at his home, surrounded by his family. Dan was a valuable contributor to many good things happening in our city and especially Little Friends, Inc. Service times and a complete obituary are pending. When arrangements regarding visitation and funeral services become available by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, we shall present them.

Meanwhile, this website is chock full of photos and memories of times when Dan Casey was doing good things for others. One time is featured in a story when he helped Guinness and the firefighting community during festivities back in October 2014.

Since Thursday morning we’ve been searching PN files from the last 20 years, finding so many ways Dan Casey was involved in this community. We aim to present a gallery of photos soon.

Original Post, May 14, 2019 / Casey’s Foods is pleased to announce that effective June 1, 2019, it will be under the new ownership of longtime employee and Naperville resident, Kris Visher. Visher assumes ownership from Dan Casey, who will stay on as Executive Officer, with responsibilities to ensure the high quality of customer service and products Casey’s Foods will continue to offer.

What was started in 1969 by two Irish immigrants — Mike Casey and Mike Kelly as Mike’s Meats —evolved into the independent grocery store located in Naperville Plaza, run by second-generation Dan Casey. Since starting behind the meat counter in 1975, the younger Casey has carried out his family’s vision of providing excellent products with exceptional service to the local community.

“At Casey’s Foods, we have an unwavering commitment to our customers and our community,” said Dan Casey. “It was important that we find the right ownership to take Casey’s into the future, and there is no one better than Kris to do it.”

Since opening at its current location in 1991, Casey’s Foods has been a cornerstone of the Naperville community, supporting countless organizations, parades, special events; and serving customers its signature high-quality meats, produce, bakery, and grocery items.

Kris Visher joined Casey’s Foods in 2005 as Business Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Accountant. Prior to that, her career was in working for companies in need of financial department restructuring and development of financial support systems. Visher and her family moved to Naperville in 1985 where she quickly became involved in the community, including Grace United Methodist Church, the Magical Starlight Theatre, the Naperville Park District and more.

“It’s my goal to maintain and expand Casey’s Foods presence in the community with a continued commitment to excellence in service and product, while supporting our community,” said Visher. “I have deep respect for the history of Casey’s Foods, and the values that have long been a priority. I look forward to maintaining and honoring that, while expanding our responsiveness to the changing tastes and lifestyles through innovation of ideas in products, and delivery of services.”

According to Dan Casey, selling to a new owner wasn’t a decision that came lightly.

“This isn’t just a career,” Dan Casey said. “It’s where I grew up. It’s my father’s and my family’s legacy. I’m excited for what’s to come and to continue supporting the Casey’s team. Just as my father did in his retirement, I’ll look forward to returning often, especially around lunchtime.”
