Sales Focus – Why Volunteer?

-

You can lend a helping hand and feel good. You never know where that will lead!

I am so glad February is over. That little month was cold, dark and slippery. March is here… Yay! Back to more daylight and opportunities to volunteer.

“What has this got to do with sales,” you ask? Volunteering leads to networking, which is the best way to meet people and build relationships.

We all have many groups we support as well as other groups tugging at our time, talent, and treasure. Our kids were involved in park district sports, Scouts, church, and school groups including music, track, and drama – lots of drama. Recently, many Facebook friends are inviting me to their birthday fundraiser. Wait, there’s more! The phone rings nightly, and starts up at 8AM on Saturdays.

There are dozens of places to volunteer your time including many local nonprofits, church, career centers, PADS, youth sports, and schools. The key is to find a couple organizations that seem to fit with your skills or passion; how they make you feel after you have spent some time there.

What should you do? Start with a few reasons why you want to volunteer, then find a couple organizations that fit with those reasons where you can have some fun, too. Meet people and get to know them. You never know where a conversation will lead. Back in 2013, at a volunteer event, I met a guy who invited me to his networking group where I found funding for a business my wife and I were able to start.

Spring has (almost) sprung! One out of four people say they don’t volunteer because no one asked them. Please stop by the welcome desk at your place of worship and ask how you can help.
