Anderson’s Children’s Literature Breakfast is set for Sat., Feb. 23

Above / Some 500 children’s booklovers, educators and authors are expected to gather on Sat., Feb. 23, when Anderson’s Bookshops celebrate a morning of literature and learning at Bobak’s Signature Events in Woodridge.

Anderson’s 17th Annual Children’s Literature Breakfast will be held from 8AM to 12PM Sat., Feb. 23, at Bobak’s Signature Events, 6440 Double Eagle Dr. in Woodridge. The cost for the entire morning is $59 and includes a full breakfast. Advance registration is required. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet celebrated children’s authors, including dozens from Illinois. This is designed for picture book through Young Adult enthusiasts.

Confirmed Speakers

Max Amato studied at the Tyler School of Art and is a designer, art director, and illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. An uptight eraser and careless pencil delight readers in Perfect, Amato’s first picture book.

Mac Barnett is the author of the Brixton Brother series and several picture books, including Guess Again! and Chloe and the Lion (both illustrated by Adam Rex), and the New York Times bestseller Extra Yarn. He’s on the board of directors of 826LA, a nonprofit writing center, and founded the Echo Park Time Travel Mart, a convenience store for time travelers. Barnett lives in Oakland, California.

Andrea Beaty is the New York Times bestselling author of many children’s books, including Rosie Revere, Engineer and Attack of the Fluffy Bunnies. She lives with her family outside Chicago.

Matthew Cordell is the author and illustrator of Caldecott award winner Wolf in the Snow, Trouble GumAnother Brotherhello! hello!, and Wish. He has illustrated the books of renowned authors including Philip Stead (Special Delivery), Rachel Vail (the Justin Case series), and Gail Carson Levine (Forgive Me, I Meant To Do It). Cordell lives outside of Chicago with his wife, the novelist Julie Halpern, and their two children.

Lincoln Peirce Max and the Midknights, Peirce’s first book for Crown Books for Young Readers, originated as an unfinished spoof of sword & sorcery tales. Returning to the idea years later, Peirce rewrote the story around Max, a ten-year-old apprentice troubadour who dreams of becoming a knight. The result is a high-spirited medieval adventure. When he is not writing or drawing, Peirce and his wife have two children and live in Portland, Maine.

Participants will enjoy breakfast and lively discussion with different authors or illustrators circulating to their table throughout the morning. There will also be drawings, goody bags, book talks on the newest in Children’s Literature, an on-site bookstore as well as continuing education hours. 

Annual Illustrated Chair Raffle

This year’s chairs are decorated by special guests Max Amato, Matthew Cordell and Lincoln Peirce. All proceeds of the annual Chair Raffle benefit the boys and Girls Club of Naperville.

Check-in for Anderson’s 17th Annual Children’s Literature Breakfast begins at 7:15AM. The day’s activities begin promptly at 8AM. A time for autographing follows the conclusion of the Children’s Literature Breakfast at 12PM.
