Edward-Elmhurst’s ‘Unstoppable You’ event aims to inspire positivity in face of adversity

Above / Samantha Harris, former co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Entertainment Tonight, will be the keynote speaker at Edward-Elmhurst Health’s “Unstoppable You” Wellness Forum on Sat., March 16, 2019, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Oak Brook. Originally Posted Feb. 18, 2019 / Edward-Elmhurst Health will host a Healthy Driven Wellness Forum, “Unstoppable You,” from 8:30AM to 1PM on Sat., March 16, at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 1909 Spring Rd. in Oak Brook.

Samantha Harris, former co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Entertainment Tonight, will be the keynote speaker. Harris is also a cancer survivor. In 2014, she was diagnosed with stage II invasive breast cancer at age 40 and shared her treatment journey in a video diary that aired on Entertainment Tonight and an E! Network special during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Along with her husband, Michael, Harris founded the online community “Gotta Make Lemonade” to inspire positivity in the face of adversity. She recently published her first book, “Your Healthiest Healthy: 8 Ways to Take Control, Help Prevent and Fight Cancer, and Live a Longer, Cleaner Happier Life.” All “Unstoppable You” attendees will receive a free copy of the book.

“Unstoppable You,” funded by the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation, will include two sessions. 

Session 1 / Select 1

  • Balancing Act: Eating for a Healthier YouJulie Sanfilippo, RD, LDN, a lifestyle coach who specializes in diabetes prevention, will share steps that you can take to get yourself on the path to healthier eating and a healthier you.
  • Mind Over Matter: Easing Stress with MeditationJulia Afridi, DO, medical director of Integrative Medicine, will discuss the benefits of meditation and teach you how to use meditation to quiet the mind and help ease the effects of daily stress.
  • Know Your Numbers for Better HealthAlyssa Papuga, DO, family medicine physician with Edward Medical Group, will help you understand routine blood tests and how the results impact your health.
  • Sleep for Success: Getting Your Best SleepPhillip Cozzi, MD, medical director of the Sleep Center at Elmhurst Hospital, will discuss how to get your best sleep, common issues to look for and when it’s time to speak with a sleep specialist.

Session 2 / Select 1

  • Ground Yourself in GratitudeTodd Fink, CADC, musician, author, speaker, counselor and lifelong student of meditation, will lead this discussion about how you can navigate your life with a more grateful and open heart.
  • Options for Weight Loss: What’s Best for You?Neha Shah, MD, and Omar Shamsi, MD, specialists in bariatric and obesity medicine, will discuss the complex connection between genetics, chemistry, hormones, lifestyle and psychosocial factors involved in weight gain, and options for losing weight and keeping it off.
  • No Excuses: How to Start an Exercise Plan and Stick to It Connie Truesdale, certified personal trainer and joint specialist at Edward-Elmhurst Health & Fitness, will offer advice on developing an exercise routine that will keep you motivated and moving.
  • Stress and Anxiety: Keep Them at BayLaura Koehler, PsyD, licensed clinical psychologist with Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, will discuss practical ways to accept and manage stress so that you can lead a fuller, more meaningful life.
