Naperville Police investigate report of aggravated robbery, seek information

Update, Feb. 21, 2019 / Naperville Police investigating the incident in a parking lot near the intersection of Ridgeland Avenue and Naperville/Wheaton Road for the report of a robbery that had just occurred later identified Nelson Andrew Dones, 19, of the 4600 block of Sailboat Bay in Lisle, as a possible offender.

Dones was taken into custody on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, and is charged with felony robbery and forgery stemming from the Feb. 14 incident and obstructing identification for providing a fictitious name to detectives during his arrest.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation,
and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Original Post, Feb. 15, 2019 / On Thursday, February 14, 2019 at approximately 11:12PM, Naperville Police officers were called to a parking lot near the intersection of Ridgeland Avenue and Naperville/Wheaton Road for the report of a robbery that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, responding officers learned that the victim had arranged online to meet the offender to sell an item of high value. Upon meeting, however, the offender implied he had a weapon, grabbed the item and fled the scene on foot. No weapon was ever displayed and no one was injured during this incident.

The offender is described as follows: male/white (Hispanic decent), early 20’s, approx. 5`6″-5`7″ tall, approx. 165-
175 lbs., with an athletic build and medium-length black hair.

If anyone has information regarding this crime, they are encouraged to contact the Naperville Police Department at (630) 420-6666 and ask for the Investigations Division.

The Naperville Police Department encourages the public to utilize the Naperville Police Department as a safe
location to meet and complete transactions that began online. The department’s front lobby is available for this
purpose Monday through Friday from 7AM to 8PM and on Saturdays from 10AM to 6PM. When the lobby is
closed, the public is encouraged to use the department’s front parking lot, which is well-lit and video recorded and has access to an emergency telephone.
