Video Voice – Board Matters

-

There are about 300 nonprofit organizations in our community providing social services, educational and recreational opportunities as well as supporting the arts.  When each of these organizations filed their 501(c)3 paperwork, they had to recruit a board of directors to govern the organization. Every nonprofit board member has three fundamental legal duties:

Duty of Care – exercising their best judgement while actively participating in decision-making on behalf of the organization.

Duty of Loyalty – putting the interests of the organization before their personal and professional interests when making decisions on behalf of the organization.

Duty of Obedience – ensuring the organization complies with the applicable federal, state, and local laws and adheres to its mission.

As anyone who has ever sat on a board knows, that’s just the starting point. Nonprofit boards have responsibilities that go far beyond these three legal duties. That is why finding the right members is so important.

As your community’s nonprofit television station, NCTV17 has a board of directors committed to our mission of keeping Naperville informed. As we start 2019, we are delighted to announce our new board leadership team: Michele Clemen, President; Shoshana Frank, Vice President; and Kevin Tyschper, Treasurer.

We also welcome five new directors to our 12-person board. All are long-time supporters of the station and have deep roots within the community:

Pam Bartlett, owner of Pinot’s Pallete and member of the Downtown Naperville Alliance board. Tom Belgio, co-owner of Belgio’s Catering and member of D203’s Business Partnership Advisory Council. Karen Coleman, interior design consultant with Arhaus Furniture and former president of the Naperville Jaycees. Ian Holzhauer, attorney with Nagle & Obarski, PC and Chairman of the NACC’s Young Professionals Network.  Alice Wood, founder of Wealth Watchers and member of Sunrise Rotary and the DuPage Foundation Professional Advisory Group.

These community contributors bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the station’s board and we look forward to benefiting from their investment in community television. From where I sit, 2019 is off to a good start.
