Senior Voices – 2019 Wants

-

Where did 2018 go? Have you noticed the older you get, the faster the time goes? It is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

Here are my wants for 2019.

This past year has been fraught with elections, which meant way too many unwanted phone calls. Plus, all the cold advertising calls. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our government could put a stop to that? Seems to me if you pay for a phone line, it should belong to only you to use as you see fit. Our home belongs to us. We don’t allow unknown people to open our doors and come in.

Our Senior Task Force is working on affordable housing. Wouldn’t it also be great if our City would request new developers to include a to-be-determined percentage of their units to be affordable? We are working on that, but it is an uphill battle. Seems like money rules.

One thing we are recently working on for seniors is handy men. Many seniors live alone and sometimes need a man to replace a light bulb in the ceiling or lift a big bag of birdseed out of the trunk of the car, replace a window shade, etc.

Sure, you have friends that will do it for you, but you hate to ask them. You would probably rather call someone from our Senior Task Force. That way you won’t feel like you are imposing.

Chuckle Time – A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
