Century Walk Artists will be on exhibit in Schoenherr Art Gallery Nov. 9 to Dec. 2

-

Above / The Schoenherr Art Gallery is located in the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., on the campus of North Central College, just steps from downtown Naperville.

From 6 to 9PM Fri., Nov. 9, the public is welcome to a new indoor exhibit that will open with a variety of original work by Century Walk Artists in the Schoenherr Art Gallery. The exhibit runs Fri., Nov. 9 through Sun. Dec. 2, 2018.

In 1996, Century Walk began as an outdoor public art initiative featuring murals, mosaics, reliefs, mobiles, and sculptures throughout downtown Naperville.

Today, Century Walk features many significant pieces by local and nationally-recognized artists that reflect more than 100 years of Naperville’s history. Many of those artists such as Marianne Lisson Kuhn also create art for inside the home or office, works that will be on exhibit in the Schoenherr Art Gallery.

For more information about Century Walk art with its many stories, visit www.centurywalk.org.  Or take a stroll through downtown Naperville where art outside in public places depicts scenes from this city’s memories such as Veterans Valor at the entrance to Central Park along Washington Street.

In 2006, Veterans’ Valor created by Shirley McWorter-Moss found its prominent place at the entrance to Central Park. The sculpture depicts heroism of many veterans, reflected in the unusual story of five men who grew up in Naperville and served in the armed forces during World War II. Fortunately, they all returned home having earned high military honors. Read more on the Century Walk plaque on the base.

Century Walk dedicates ‘Laughing Lincoln’ sculpture on December 2

Naperville’s Public Art Program, funded in part by SECA, will dedicate its 50th piece of public art called “Laughing Lincoln” at 2PM Sun., Dec. 2, in Central Park. The sculpture that depicts Abraham Lincoln at age 30 is Century Walk’s gift to Naperville and its residents to coincide with the State of Illinois 200th Anniversary as the 21st State of the Union.
