Hurricane Florence Relief Effort Hosted by Rotary Clubs of Naperville

Help fill a trailer provided by Cadence Premier Logistics with much-needed items to send to the Carolinas. Rotary Clubs of Naperville invite all service clubs, faith organizations, homeowners associations, businesses and individuals to join a community-wide service project by donating items for victims of devastation caused by Hurricane Florence. Items collected will go to Lumberton, NC, one of the cities in economic distress and ravaged by flooding.

Thanks to the Naperville Park District, arrangements have been made to park the trailer at the Garden Plots on West Street for the collection. Look for banners (Thanks to Blooming Color for the quick turnaround of banner production.) and the large trailer that will stationed along West Street beginning at 8AM Sat., Oct. 6, and departing at 6PM on Sat., Oct. 13. (Note: If 53-ft. trailer fills sooner, another trailer will be available.)

  • Tarps, Dehumidifiers, 5-gallon Buckets, Cordless Power Tools, Shop Vacs, Hammers & Nails, Rubber Gloves, Dog Food & Cat Food, Paper Towels, Shop Rags, Adult Diapers
  • Baby Diapers, Baby Powder, Baby Wipes, Baby Formula, Empty Spray Bottles, Face (dust) Masks, Toothbrushes & Toothpaste, Shovels, Fans, Sponges, Flashlights
  • Sanitary Napkins, Tampons, Batteries, Shampoo, Conditioner, Blankets, Pillows, Sheets & Towels, Bibles, Hand Sanitizer, Bleach

Friday

3-Day The Frisbee/Flying Disc Convention – 10AM-4PM | $15 (Kids under 10 FREE)

The Frisbee/Flying Disc Convention will be held at the Naperville Marriott Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring Frisbee legends and players from as far back as the 70’s and 80’s, world champions and hall of famer, etc. 

Oktoberfest – 5PM-10PM | $10-$15
Naper Settlement – 523 S. Webster St. Naperville, IL 60540
Oktoberfest will be held from 5­­­­–10PM on Friday, October 5 & Noon–10PM Saturday, October 6 at Naper Settlement. Enjoy live musical entertainment and traditional cuisine celebrating all things German. MyChef will be dishing out hearty German delicacies and Schamberger Brothers is back with a fall selection of craft brews that put the fest in Oktoberfest! Children’s activities are available on Saturday from 1-4 PM. No outside food or beverages are allowed. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 4-12). Members and children under 4 receive free admission.

This year’s Oktoberfest line-up will wow the crowd, from classic German Oompah to polka to rock. On Friday, the festivities kick off with Lenny Gomulka & Chicago Push, a 12-time Grammy Award Nominee and member of the International Polka Music Hall of Fame, followed by returning rockers Polkaholics. Saturday’s line-up is a non-stop roller coaster of German jams, featuring the musical stylings of returning artists The Happy Wanderers and Freeze Dried – singing generational classics with a polka twist – as well as new groups Steve Meisner Trio and headliners Mike & Joe, the Midwest’s most renowned cover band, bringing the night to a rock n’ roll finale. Naperville Farmer’s Market â€“ 7AM-noon | Free Admission, $ for Items

The Naperville Farmer’s Market is a rain/shine event that is held every Saturday through October 27 in the parking lot of 5th Avenue Station. This is a pet-free market. Over 25 vendors that offer anything from produce, to meat, to flowers, along with hot coffee.

Caseys Foods located at Naperville Plaza will be firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM through October, weather permitting. Choose from a variety of options, including burgers, brats, tacos or the weekly special. It’s great food, at a good price, in a fun atmosphere outside under cover. Ghost Stories in the Park . . . In the Dark– 6 & 8PM | $7

Join in the fun as the Summer Place Theatre presents its annual Ghost Stories in the Park . . . in the Dark Oct. 5, 6 & 7! Enjoy one hour of scary stories sure to send shivers up your spine. This is an outdoor event; please dress warmly and bring blankets and cushions. Not recommended for children under 5. Tickets may be purchased over the phone, online at www.napervilleparks.org  or during regular business hours at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, the 95th Street Center or Fort Hill Activity Center. Tickets can be purchased until 3PM on Fri., Oct. 5 for the weekend’s shows. After that time, tickets must be purchased at the performance. Cash only please. Physical tickets are not distributed; staff checks you in at the event. Sorry, no refunds. Ghost Stories run 7-8PM Friday and Sunday.

Pumpkin Palooza! – 11AM | Free

Families will be enchanted by giant pumpkins and hayrides. There will be music in the air while playing pumpkin games, making crafts and painting pumpkins. Pumpkin Palooza magic goes on all weekend, captivating kids of all ages. Many of the giant pumpkins are decorated and visitors get to vote for their favorite before sampling food and more fun activities. Here is the full schedule for The Growing Place’s Pumpkin Palooza at 2000 Montgomery Rd. in Aurora on 9AM-5PM Saturday, October 6, 11AM-5PM and Sunday, October 7. It’s all about the pumpkin with pumpkin painting for kids ($5), pumpkin race cars ($3), pumpkin scavenger hunt (free), pumpkin launcher ($1), pumpkin bounce house ($1), hayrides ($1), vote for your favorite giant decorated pumpkins. 11AM-3PM Make a Pump-cculent Using succulents and a pumpkin, create a unique, long-lasting fall centerpiece for your fall decorations. German Language Church Services – 11:30AM | Free
St. John United Church of Christ – 1190 Olesen Drive Naperville, IL 60540
Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sunday, October 7, 2018. The service will be led by Pastor Dr. Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Drive. German services are held on the first Sunday of every month and will continue on November 4 and December 2. For more information, call (630) 355-5208.
