Edward Hospital’s EMS (Emergency Medical Services) “Run of the Quarter” for April-June 2018 has been awarded to the Naperville Fire Dept., Medic 7, for their care in April of a 12-year-old who was having an allergic reaction after eating some peanut butter.
Paramedics found the patient was having difficulty breathing, had hives, and swelling of the lips and tongue. They administered several rounds of medication and took the patient to the Edward Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department for additional treatment.
After his condition improved and stabilized, the patient was transferred to another hospital for further care.
How ‘Run of the Quarter’ is determined
In the “Run of the Quarter” program, the Edward EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital providers and selects one to be recognized every three months.
Decisions are based on the following criteria:
–Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Edward Emergency Department staff
–Clear and thorough documentation
–Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation
–Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field
–Superior partnership and teamwork with Edward Hospital
