Fire Departments respond to structure fire on Naperville’s north side, several transported to Edward

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — at 08:25 (AM) hours this morning, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident reporting a fire in the area of 5th Avenue and Ogden. 

A general alarm was dispatched to the possible structure fire.

Structure Fire 700 Block of Benedetti Drive

A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, two rescues, and two shift commanders.

Within three minutes of the initial 911 call, the first companies arrived on scene and found a fully involved unit on fire in an apartment building. The alarm was quickly upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm bringing additional fire, EMS, and command units to the scene.

The fire unit was occupied and all residents from the building were able to evacuate from the structure prior to the arrival of fire companies. Four patients were evaluated by EMS personnel on the scene and two were transported to Edward Hospital.

One firefighter was evaluated and transported to Edward Hospital as well.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Downers Grove FD, Warrenville FPD, Oswego FPD, Lisle-Woodridge FPD, Plainfield FPD and the Naperville Police Department. Other agencies to assist on scene were Nicor, Naperville Emergency Management Agency, Naperville Transportation and Engineering Division, Naperville Electric Department, American Red Cross and Naperville Public Works.

The Aurora FD, Bolingbrook FD, Warrenville FPD, and Wheaton FD provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. This building was deemed uninhabitable by T.E.D. and Naperville Fire Investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause of this fire.
