Juvenile faces felony charges for March armed carjacking

-

A 16-year-old suspect from Chicago has been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred in Naperville in March 2018.

At approximately 8PM on March 12, Naperville Police responded to the 2100 block of Allegre Circle for a report that two offenders, one of whom displayed a handgun, approached the victim as he sat in his vehicle with his 4-year-old child and demanded his cell phone and keys to the vehicle. The victim and his child exited the vehicle, a red 2016 Nissan Rogue, and the two offenders fled the area in the vehicle.

No one was injured in this incident. The stolen vehicle was recovered, parked and unoccupied, in the City of Chicago later in the evening on March 12.

Naperville Police Department’s investigation into the incident identified the juvenile suspect, of the 1100 block of N. Monitor in Chicago, as the offender who was armed with a handgun at the time of the offense.

An arrest warrant was issued for two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class X Felonies), and the juvenile was arrested by Chicago Police Department on August 9, 2018 on unrelated charges.

The police department’s investigation into the second suspect continues.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
