Be prepared for crackdown on impaired drivers and seat belt law violators

-

UPDATE, July 9, 2018 / Naperville Police Department Arrest Five for Impaired Driving during Holiday Enforcement Campaign

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Naperville Police made five drunk-driving arrests and issued 34 seat belt citations during the recent Fourth of July Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket crackdown.

Naperville Police joined forces with more than 150 other state and local law enforcement agencies conducting the campaign, which featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, including a media campaign. The goal of this statewide effort was to get impaired drivers off Illinois roadways and encourage seat belt use among motorists and passengers.

The recent law enforcement effort was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

Submitted by Sgt. Derek Zook for the Naperville Police Department.

Original Post, June 27, 2018 / The Naperville Police Department will be conducting a traffic enforcement campaign focusing on impaired and unbuckled drivers from now through July 8 to encompass the Independence Day holiday, an all-too-often deadly time on Illinois roads.

“We encourage residents to celebrate Independence Day safely,” said Naperville Police Sgt. Derek Zook. “If you’re going to drink, don’t drive. Too many people die behind the wheel each year because of those who choose to drive impaired by alcohol or drugs. Our officers will be out in full force, showing zero tolerance for impaired drivers.”

Naperville Police will join the Illinois State Police and more than 150 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

Naperville Police also set a road side safety check for June 29.

“This Fourth of July, designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive drunk,” said Sgt. Zook.

  • Other important tips include:
  • Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
  • If you are drunk or impaired by marijuana or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit, use a ride-sharing service or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
  • Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 9-1-1.
  • Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It is your best defense against an impaired driver.
