Commissioners approve Phase I of new park at 3252 Wolf’s Crossing Road
Also during the “Special Meeting” portion on June 14, Naperville Park District staff presented the Southwest Community Park Master Plan to the Board of Commissioners for approval, a vote that sent the design of Phase I back to the staff for cost estimates and a budget to be considered on June 28.
The design includes 1.78 miles of trails and amenities such as a splash pad, sand volleyball court, a gazebo, a sled hill, nature areas and more. Though space for ball fields is indicated in the design, the fields will be added at a later date when/if needed for programming, according to Director of Recreation Brad Wilson.
Executive Director Ray McGury noted that even though an indoor pool has continued to receive high scores on recent surveys (and an indoor pool is still on his mind), the a 33-acre site along Wolf’s Crossing Road in southwest Naperville is not a financially viable location.
McGury also said the first phase of construction could begin as early as summer 2019, with completion by the summer of 2020.
