For this resident, summer is my favorite season in Naperville. I love strolling through downtown by the DuPage River, eating outside at many of the wonderful restaurants, and enjoying the beauty of the flowers blooming in the many gardens and parks across the city.
While the weather this past month made it feel like summer was never going to arrive, it’s now officially here! And with it, your local television station will be out covering a wide variety of community events.
On June 7 Shannon Greene-Robb will receive the 2018 “Fair Lady Award.” Kandiss Hernandez and Fair Lady Productions, Inc. will recognize her as a businesswoman who has made a positive difference in Naperville through her contribution and commitment to community arts organizations.
On Saturday, June 9, NCTV17 will broadcast North Central College’s commencement ceremony live from the Residential/Recreation Center. Among those receiving their diplomas is NCTV17 reporter Blane Erwin. Congratulations to all the Cardinals in the Class of 2018.
The Naperville Municipal Band will be back at Central Park on Thursday nights for their summer concert series. NCTV17 will be broadcasting many of the concerts throughout the summer live on Channel 17 and online at NCTV17.com.
One of the station’s annual summer traditions is to cover the City Championships for Naperville Little League Baseball. Both the Supreme and Majors divisional championships are being played on Saturday, June 23 at Nike Park. NCTV17 will rebroadcast the games in their entirety on the channel, starting the following day. We will also have DVDs for sale to send to grandma and grandpa!
While we cover many community events in June, we also air regular programming that addresses summer-related issues. One such show is “SchoolScene,” hosted by NCUSD 203 Superintendent Dan Bridges. On the latest episode he talks with fellow staff members about how to avoid the ‘summer brain drain’ and what parents can do to help their students continue to learn throughout the summer.

No matter what you do this summer, we hope you’ll spend a little time with NCTV17 – on air and online!
