DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Robert Marshall announced on Tuesday, May 29, that bond has been set for a Carol Stream man accused of armed robbery at a Naperville Speedway gas station. Robert Hill, 19 (d.o.b. 1/18/1999) of 738 Bluff Street, appeared in Bond Court this afternoon where Judge Richard Russo set bond at $500,000 with 10% to apply in accordance with a previously issued arrest warrant for Hill. Hill has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery With a Firearm (Class X Felony) and one count of Aggravated Robbery (Class 1 Felony).

On October 15, 2017, officers with the Naperville Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Speedway gas station. It is alleged that prior to the officer’s arrival, Hill and two accomplices, all wearing masks, entered the Speedway gas station. It is further alleged that one of the men displayed a handgun and struck the clerk on the back of the head with the gun. It is alleged that the men then took money from the register as well as the victim’s iPhone before locking the clerk in the back office. It is alleged that all three men then fled the scene. An investigation into the matter led by the Naperville Police Department led to Hill who was taken into custody today when he appeared at the DuPage County Courthouse on another matter. The investigation into the armed robbery continues.

“It is alleged Mr. Hill and two other individuals entered the Speedway gas station, pistol whipped an innocent man who was just trying to make an honest living and then stole money from the business and the victim’s iPhone,” Berlin said. “Thankfully the victim was not seriously hurt during this traumatic event. Thanks to the outstanding work of the Naperville Police Department that Mr. Hill was identified as a suspect in this case and charged. I would like to thank the West Chicago, Carol Stream, Streamwood and Bartlett Police Departments for their assistance in this case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Claudia Fantauzzo for her efforts in preparing a strong case against Mr. Hill.”

“This investigation was an excellent example of a multi-department approach which led to the identity and ultimate arrest of the offender,” Marshall said. “One of our most important objectives is keeping the community safe from violent crime and clearing this case is in line with our mission. Thank you to those agencies who assisted.”

Hill’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 25, 2018, in front of Judge John Kinsella.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
